BMI-BFMNU: A structural index linked to fat mass

چکیده
Introduction: Body mass index (BMI) provides little information on body composition. For example, two people with the same BMI might have different compositions. In this sense, development of a new able to provide composition is clinical and scientific interest. The aim study was suggest modified formula.Material methods: A total 108 subject, females 56 males 52, 0-73 years old, in various physiopathological conditions were evaluated. Data collected processed by program that through anthropometric measurements calculates classic BMI, volume, surface, V/S (that we can defined like body-thickness “pseudospessore”) BMI-BFMNU.Results: basic formula (BMI =Body Mass [kg]/Height [m2]) uses height squared as value although only an approximation real whereas using surface instead, reflects better ratio between volume its surface. called "pseudospessore" already used literature from BFMNU (Italian acronym refereed Biologia e Fisiologia Modellistica della Nutrizione Umana) method has been shown be related amount fat. Conclusions: Using BMI-BFMNU, it possible obtain indication structure fat. consequence obtained numerical values do not coincide traditional BMI’s will refer normal ranges. instance, person may range weight for both measurements, but BMI-BFMNU detects whether higher or lower fat content considering individual’s category. This opens up future developments application allow more accurate assessment classification patients.

Measuring Adiposity in Patients: The Utility of Body Mass Index (BMI), Percent Body Fat, and Leptin
BACKGROUND Obesity is a serious disease that is associated with an increased risk of diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, stroke, and cancer, among other diseases. The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates a 20% obesity rate in the 50 states, with 12 states having rates of over 30%. Currently, the body mass index (BMI) is most commonly used to determine adip...
متن کاملFat and muscle component of body mass index (BMI): relation with hyperinsulinemia.
Currently there is tremendous interest in obesity and its harmful donsequences. Height, weight and body mass index (BMI) along with waist girth are routinely used parameters. One snag in the interpretation of BMI >25 as a measure of obesity is the assumption that the increase is mainly due to fat. This review emphasizes the importance of assessing the muscle component of BMI (by simple somatosc...

background: the sensitivity and specificity of body mass index (bmi) percentiles of centers for disease control 2000 (cdc2000) standard was compared with child actual overweight which was identified by fat mass index (fmi) and overweight status in these children based on bmi and fmi. methods: in this case-control study, elementary school girls (aged 8-10 years) were recruited from schools of is...
متن کاملAssociation between fat mass index and fat-free mass index values and cardiovascular risk in adolescents
OBJECTIVE To describe the association between fat mass index and fat-free mass index values and factors associated with cardiovascular risk in adolescents in the city of Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais. METHODS Cross-sectional study with 403 adolescents aged 10-14 years, from public and private schools. Anthropometric, clinical, biochemical measurements were obtained, as well as self-reported time...
متن کاملEffects of BMI, Fat Mass, and Lean Mass on Asthma in Childhood: A Mendelian Randomization Study
BACKGROUND Observational studies have reported associations between body mass index (BMI) and asthma, but confounding and reverse causality remain plausible explanations. We aim to investigate evidence for a causal effect of BMI on asthma using a Mendelian randomization approach. METHODS AND FINDINGS We used Mendelian randomization to investigate causal effects of BMI, fat mass, and lean mass...
